Sunday – September 4th – 1 Peter 2:4     -----

4) You are coming to Christ, who is the living cornerstone of God’s temple. He was rejected by people, but he was chosen by God for great honor.

The Daily Walk Bible inspirational thought for today:
A PROPHET DESERVES HONOR, NOT BECAUSE HE FORESEES THE COMING EVENT, BUT BECAUSE HE SEES THE MEANING WITHIN THE CURRENT EVENT.*

Happy and healthy Sunday to you! My prayer is that you are able to find time today to worship the God who has blessed you with so much that you might be a blessing to others. The inspirational thought today reflects the readings coming from the Old Testament book of Hosea. Prophets back in the day usually had a tough career field and, except for two or three, they usually only lasted for a short time. Typically, the words of a prophet, who prefaced their says with “thus says the Lord”, challenged the complacency of God’s chosen people to the point of an anger filled reaction. When their prophetic words directly indicted the people for turning their back on God and God’s word, they were either dismissed as crazy fanatics or were run out of town or killed on the spot. Sharing God’s truth is never easy and is rarely accepted by the intended audience. Sadly, it has become commonplace to point fingers at the sins of past generations while ignoring the sins of our current generation.

In our pick verse today, Peter introduces a new topic for our consideration as followers of Jesus. We are to see ourselves as living stones incorporated into God’s perfect house. In describing the church as God’s spiritual temple, Peter drew on several Old Testament texts familiar to the early Jewish Christians. Peter’s first audience would have easily understood the living stones to be a reference to Israel. Peter then applied the image of a “cornerstone” to that of Jesus. The perfect prophet which the religious leaders of Israel rejected was God’s choice for the all-important foundational stone placed in the buildings corner. Peter’s connection of Old Testament imagery with the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus proved that Christianity did not cancel the Jewish heritage but actual served to fulfil it completely.

Blessings
