Tuesday – September 13th – 1 Peter 13-14     ------

13) For the Lord’s sake, submit to all human authority—whether the king as head of state,
14) or the officials he has appointed. For the king has sent them to punish those who do wrong and to honor those who do right.

The Daily Walk Bible inspirational thought for today:
MERCY IMITATES GOD AND DISAPPOINTS SATAN.*

Good Tuesday to you, my friends!  What a nippy morning here in the shadow of the O’Fallon steeple. Yes, even though we are a still a week plus away from the official autumn equinox the days are cooler, and the amount of sunshine is decreasing. With the coming of fall, the SunRise calendar of activities ramps up on all fronts. Over the next few days, I will share with you some of the highlights of September and October. I do want to take a moment to let us reflect on the inspirational thought for today. This thought should really be the job description for every follower of Jesus. If we can accomplish the premise of this thought, we will fully live into the mission and ministry that Jesus established for believers. And the result will be that we will become even more effective in populating the Kingdom of Heaven.

In our pick verse today, Peter introduces a rather unique role for first century believers. With many Christians under the watchful eye of the Roman government Peter understood the challenges the followers of Jesus faced each day. When Peter told them to submit to civil authorities, he was specifically speaking of the emperor of the day, Nero who is historically noted as being a notoriously cruel tyrant. Obviously, he was not telling believers to compromise their consciences for the sake of compromise. Peter understood the importance for Christians to live in accordance with the law of the land in which they resided. Yet, just like when Peter stood before the religious leaders in Acts 5, we are to not negotiate between what is God’s word, God’s way, or God’s will for our lives, and what society suggests that we should accept and endorse. There is more than plenty of opportunity for us to stand firm on the words of the Gospel while resisting the temptations of Satan.

Blessings
