Saturday – September 17th – 1 Peter 2:18 -----
18) You who are slaves must submit to your masters with all respect. Do what they tell you—not only if they are kind and reasonable, but even if they are cruel.
The Daily Walk Bible inspirational thought for today:
WHAT A PERSON BELIEVES, HE WILL DIE FOR. WHAT A PERSON MERELY THINKS, SHE WILL CHANGE HER MIND ABOUT.*
Happy Saturday to you! A beautiful warm weekend is in store for blog readers who live in the shadow of the O’Fallon steeple. Our SunRise September activity update for today is a reminder for all those folks (regardless of age) who would like to participate in our Baptism Sunday on October 2nd. For anyone who would like to receive more information about baptism or reaffirmation of baptism you are invited to join me on Sunday September 25th at 11am. You can sign up for this informational class at www.sunrisefamily.org/event then click on the baptism class graphic.
Our pick verse today is another one of Peter’s challenging statements for Christians in secular relationships. A modern rendering of this verse could easily substitute an employer/employee relationship to be the attitude of a Christian in the world today. In Peter’s time a servant was a household slave or an indentured farmhand. Even the ancient Roman culture had parameters on how a master could treat a slave. In most instances the “slave” was considered part of the family. In our modern culture, as a representative of the Kingdom of Heaven, we should show respect to those who have an authority over us. Likewise, when we find ourselves in a place of authority, we should treat employees or those who report to us with the same respect we show to God. If our actions fail to point to the grace and mercy of Jesus, then we fail in our witness for the Kingdom.
Blessings
