Friday – September 23rd - 1 Peter 3:1-2 -----
3:1) Wives, in the same way, accept the authority of your husbands, so that, even if some of them do not obey the word, they may be won over without a word by their wives' conduct,
2) when they see the purity and reverence of your lives.

Happy Friday to you! Wow this week has gone by fast. Today a group of staff and leaders are concluding the three-day New Room Conference in Murfreesboro, TN. The emphasis this year is on building spiritual fires in the hearts and lives of believers. What a great companion subject for our current series “Leap of Faith”. My last fall highlight for this week is a reminder that we are now halfway through Leap of Faith which includes our all-church commitment campaign for 2023. You can fill out your commitment card online through the SunRise Church App or at www.sunrisefamily.org/commitment or grab a paper copy the next time you are in the building. I am convinced that God has great things in store for SunRise in 2023, and that God wants you to be part of the amazing things He is planning to do through His church.
In our pick verses today, Peter opens this third chapter with role specific instructions for wives of non-believers. Back in Peter’s Day if a man became a Christian, he would usually bring his whole family as well. However, if a woman became a Christian, it was typically not with the same results. Under Roman law the man had complete decision-making authority over all who resided in his house. Therefore, a woman who demanded her rights as a free woman in Christ could endanger her marriage if her husband disapproved. Peter is reassuring these first century Christian women that they did not need to “preach” to their husbands. Under the circumstances, their best approach would be one of godly behavior. They should show their non-believing husbands the kind of self-giving love that Jesus showed the church. By being a Christ-like example in the home they might help the Holy Spirit in wining over their husbands to faith in Jesus. This same Christ-like example is still one of the best ways today to witness to any non-believer - family or non-family member.
