Tuesday – October 4th – 1 Peter 3:17     -----

3:17) For it is better to suffer for doing good, if suffering should be God's will, than to suffer for doing evil.

The Daily Walk Bible inspirational thought for today:
FAITH IS TO BELIEVE WHAT WE DO NOT SEE, AND THE REWARD OF THIS FAITH IS TO SEE WHAT WE BELIEVE.*

Happy Tuesday to you my blog reading friends. One of the five questions that have been historically part of Wesley discipleship band meetings is “how is it with your soul?”. What a great question as we begin this first Tuesday. Another way of stating this is - how is your personal relationship with God. When you begin to address this very important question, I have found it vital for me to factor out of the equation what is happening in my life, so any highs or lows won’t affect my answer. Our relationship with God is totally dependent on the strength of our connection with Him and not the circumstances of our lives. God is unchanging regardless of what we are facing in our life, so the bottom line is that the condition of our soul reflects our closeness to the source of our faith. I prayer all is well with your soul today.

In our pick verse today Peter shares one of the most important perspectives we can have when suffering. When we suffer the source of our suffering originates from one of two different starting points. One type of suffering is what is expected when we make bad decisions or when we step away from the will, word, or way of God. To this point Peter states that any suffering that occurs is simply our getting what we deserve. Although it is tempting to blame God for our suffering, the reality is we must own what we have done. The second type of suffering comes when we stand firm on God’s word, God’s way, and God’s will for our lives. In this type of suffering, or persecution, when it is for our faith, we will ultimately receive a blessing from God. In Acts 5:41 Peter and John, after they were beaten for preaching Jesus in the streets of Jerusalem, they left the High Council rejoicing that God had counted them worthy to suffer dishonor for the name of Jesus. Peter writes this section on suffering for Jesus from firsthand experience.
