Friday – October 7th – 1 Peter 3:21-22      -----

3:21) And baptism, which this prefigured, now saves you—not as a removal of dirt from the body, but as an appeal to God for a good conscience, through the resurrection of Jesus Christ,
22) who has gone into heaven and is at the right hand of God, with angels, authorities, and powers made subject to him.

The Daily Walk Bible inspirational thought for today:
WE ARE NEVER ALONE WHEN WE ARE ALONE WITH JESUS.*

Happy Friday to you! Today we get to mark off our calendars the day before the weekend begins. Oddly this is one of the only Saturdays remaining in 2022 where the SunRise calendar is clear of activities. However, remember that on Sunday we begin our church wide study series – “The Revolutionary Disciple”. If you are not part of a SunRise small group, I would like to invite you to join my group on Wednesday nights at 6:30pm in the SunRise worship space (during Family Ministry Seeds programing) for this six-week study. You can sign-up at www.sunrisefamily.org/events and then scroll down to the Church Wide Study graphic. Together we can all learn to walk humbly in our daily lives. And that my friends is revolutionary in today’s world.

Our pick verses today close out the third chapter of Peter’s first letter. To complete his thought on those who ignored Noah’s warning (v20) Peter contrasts their fate with that of Noah. Peter says that Noah’s salvation from the flood symbolized baptism, a ceremony involving water. In Christian baptism we identify with Jesus through his life, death, and resurrection. It is not the ceremony of baptism that saves us, but faith in Jesus’ sacrifice and His victory over sin and death. Baptism is an outward symbol of the transformation that God directs in the hearts of those who believe. By identifying themselves with Jesus through their baptism, Peter’s readers could resist the temptation to turn back to their old ways especially when facing the pressure of personal persecution. As believers in who are immersed in today’s culture, we too can find the strength to stand firm in our faith when we connect our baptism with the work of Jesus on the cross and his triumph over the grave. If God can accomplish raising Jesus from the dead, He can accomplish anything we face today.

Blessings
