Saturday – October 15th – 1 Peter 4:11 -----
4:11) Do you have the gift of speaking? Then speak as though God himself were speaking through you. Do you have the gift of helping others? Do it with all the strength and energy that God supplies. Then everything you do will bring glory to God through Jesus Christ. All glory and power to him forever and ever! Amen.
The Daily Walk Bible inspirational thought for today:
JESUS CHRIST CHANGED SUNSET INTO SUNRISE.*
Yes, it is Saturday and the weekend. Hope you have awesome October plans to enjoy. Tomorrow at SunRise we step into week #2 of our church-wide study series – The Revolutionary Disciple. Throughout this six-week study we will explore how being humbly to others through our relationship with Jesus will brand us a revolutionary in today’s culture. I don’t think declaring that we need Jesus “now more than ever” is an accurate assessment of the trials of humanity throughout the ages. Yes, we need Jesus and there is an urgency for revolutionary disciples to step forward on behalf of the Kingdom of Heaven. As Jesus told the ear-removing disciple that God’s way is not by the sword but by replicating the humble attitude He displayed throughout His life. I have reminded myself every day this week of what Paul told the Philippian church – to do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves.
In our pick verses today, Peter expands on his teaching of the spiritual gifts available for believers of all generations. When Peter encourages those with the gift of speaking to speak out, he is specifically referring to the gifts of preaching and teaching. Preachers and teachers should speak God’s truth as earnestly and accurately as though God were speaking directly through them, which of course He does through those filled with the Holy Spirit. For believers who show kindness and mercy they should remember that God gifts them the ability to do self-sacrificial deeds. In both what we say and what we do, God is to be glorified through Jesus the Christ. Another way we can work to have in us the humility that was in Jesus.
Blessings
