Saturday – October 22nd – 1 Peter 5:2 -----
5:2) Care for the flock that God has entrusted to you. Watch over it willingly, not grudgingly—not for what you will get out of it, but because you are eager to serve God.
The Daily Walk Bible inspirational thought for today:
A STEWARD IS MORE A GIVER THAN A GUARDIAN.*
Welcome to Saturday! What a great inspirational thought for us today. I have always approached the role of being a steward of God’s gifts as a person who carefully and cautiously watches over them with great diligence. But our thought for today suggests to me while that is one part of stewardship it is only the foundation and not the whole purpose of God. Being generous with the blessings we have received is at the heart of who God is and is at the core of our relationship with Him. I am reminded of the parable that Jesus taught about entrusting money to three different men where two invested and returned an even greater amount. The third man buried his in the ground and offered his brand of stewardship back to the master who rejected it for his failure to risk. Just like God told Abraham, we are to bless others because God has first blessed us.
In our pick verse today, Peter continues to encourage the church to incorporate best practices for effective interaction by its leaders and members. At the conclusion of John’s gospel, Jesus instructs Peter to “tend My sheep”. In today’s verse Peter is passing along this commandment to the spiritual leaders of the churches. They are to shepherd, to care for the interests of God’s people in every way. The leaders of the church are to have a heart to do God’s will and walk alongside the church family. Their motives are to focus on the spiritual growth and wellbeing of others and not on becoming rich or famous from ministry. The reward and riches for any pastor is to see souls saved, lives transformed, and to bless others through service and witness.
Blessings
