Thursday – November 10th – 2 Peter 1:2 -----
1:2) May God give you more and more grace and peace as you grow in your knowledge of God and Jesus our Lord.
The Daily Walk Bible inspirational thought for today:
ONLY THE WILLINGNESS TO SUFFER CAN REDEEM SUFFERING.*
Happy, hearty, and healthy Thursday to you. All I can think of when I read our inspirational thought for today is – “ouch”. The authors of the Daily Walk Bible readings are pointed and direct in calling out what it means to be a dedicated follower of Jesus. Granted we are reading the passages from the book of Acts where Paul is on trial before the Roman governors overseeing first century Judea. Paul’s willingness to suffer for the sake of the gospel has always been the high mark for discipleship. I admit that if given the option to avoid suffering I would probably take it with little debate. However, some things that invite suffering – like obeying God’s, word, God’s way, God’s will, and God’s when – will pale in comparison to the glory God will revel in and through us in the future days. We may never be called to stand in places like Paul, but we will all be given a chance to represent Jesus before others who may disagree or pushback. With the power of the Holy Spirit, we can stand strong.
In our pick verse today, Peter outlines a prayer that every follower of Jesus should begin their day with. We grow as Christians through an ever-deepening personal knowledge of God – Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. That knowledge involves a desire on our part to invest in a continuing growing relationship with Jesus. Sadly, some folks believe once they have accepted Jesus as their savior their work on earth is completed. All there is left to do is hang around, hoping for good things, as they wait to walk through the pearly gates of Heaven. Maybe you know some folks like that. But Peter states that being a follower of Jesus is a continuous, never ending, upward projecting growth trend. This verse plainly states that if we want to experience more grace and peace then we must be intentional in seeking to grow in our knowledge of God. This requires active participation through reading scripture (and scripture blogs), joining Bible studies, and stepping out of your comfort zone to be the hands, feet, and heart of Jesus to others. Only then will you fully experience the true peace that passes all human understanding.
Blessings
