Friday – November 11th – 2 Peter 1:3 -----
1:3) By his divine power, God has given us everything we need for living a godly life. We have received all of this by coming to know him, the one who called us to himself by means of his marvelous glory and excellence.
The Daily Walk Bible inspirational thought for today:
WE CONQUER NOT IN ANY BRILLIANT FASHION— WE CONQUER BY CONTINUING.*
Fabulous Friday to you, my friends. Our inspirational thought seems to continue the thought direction from yesterday. When we become victorious over suffering, we do so not by some flashy moment of brilliance but typically by patient endurance. In the book of Acts, Paul has been under arrest for over two years before his eventual arrival in Rome where he is placed under house arrest for additional years. Far removed from the whirlwind excitement of town-to-town evangelism in the early chapters of Acts, Paul now is focused on writing and teaching while a prisoner for Christ. More than the powerful letters penned from prison, Peter’s greatest contribution to the Christian world could be his example of perseverance in spite of his surroundings. How might we be an example to others by conquering through consistency?
As neatly as our inspirational thought complemented each other the last two days, it also fits nicely with Peter’s third verse of this chapter. God gives us power to live holy lives regardless of our situations or circumstances. Through Jesus’ divine power, He has given us everything we need to live a life of godliness. The possibility of entire sanctification (becoming holy) is included among the things that God will give to faithful believers. This power is obtainable as our personal knowledge of Jesus continues to grow. In this verse the words glory, and excellence refer to the power of God revealed in the earthly life, death, and resurrection of Jesus. Once again Peter reminds his readers that discipleship is not a spectator sport, but requires a participatory action on our part. God is willing to give generously but we must prepare ourselves to receive willingly.
Blessings
