Saturday – November 19th – 2 Peter 1:16-18

1:16) For we were not making up clever stories when we told you about the powerful coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. We saw his majestic splendor with our own eyes
17) when he received honor and glory from God the Father. The voice from the majestic glory of God said to him, “This is my dearly loved Son, who brings me great joy.”
18) We ourselves heard that voice from heaven when we were with him on the holy mountain.

The Daily Walk Bible inspirational thought for today:
IF THE YOUNG COULD BE OLD FOR A DAY, THEY WOULD NEITHER FEAR SO MUCH GROWING OLD NOR FOOLISHLY SQUANDER THE DAYS OF THEIR YOUTH.*

Good Saturday to you! WOW!!! Our inspirational thought for today is just pure gold. Of course, I am reading this from the perspective of having way more days behind me than ahead of me. The naiveite of my own youthful days prevented me from seeing the importance of each day God gave me to enjoy and be a blessing to others. While it is silly to look back and lament on what could have been, the importance of this inspirational thought is to not waste another day, another hour, another minute on things unworthy of our time. Regardless of age we can spend way too much time worrying about what we can not change and ignoring the joys right in front of us each day. It is Saturday - go live for the Kingdom of Heaven like there is no tomorrow.

In our pick verses today, Peter opens a new section in his letter to first century believers. His focus is the importance of standing on a firm foundation of faith. Peter understands the necessity to reiterate the fact of his firsthand eyewitness of the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus. Peter instructs his readers to be faithful and faith-filled because the second coming of Jesus is no fable. Peter is fully aware that the prevailing culture of his day was greatly influenced by the abundant stories from Greek mythology of gods coming to earth to interact with humanity, often for the sole pleasure of the gods. Peter insisted that Jesus was different and that his time in human form was not to be served but to serve others. To validate this claim Peter himself had witnessed the majesty of Jesus at the transfiguration which was punctuated by him, James, and John hearing God’s voice of affirmation. The undeniable truth of Jesus is still as real today as it was in first century Christianity.

Blessings
