Saturday – December 17th – 1 John 1:5     -----

1:5) This is the message which we have heard from Him and declare to you, that God is light and in Him is no darkness at all.

The Daily Walk Bible inspirational thought for today:
THERE IS A WORLD OF DIFFERENCE BETWEEN ACTIVITY AND PROGRESS.*

Hello Saturday. Tis is the week before Christmas Eve and all through the stores people are scurrying for each item on their perfect gift list. I thought today’s inspirational thought was particularly relevant for seven days before Christmas Eve. Do you feel like you are extremely active while showing little progress or results? This is a fairly typical pattern this time of year, yet the larger question is how this concept applies to your faith journey. Are you busy with religious activities but at the end of the day feel no closer to God than when you started? I have discovered that slowing down to focus on one or two specific spiritual disciplines leads to more fruit than going full speed but only tracking in circles. As the year end nears, what can you do different in 2023 to show progress for your efforts?

In our pick verse today, John introduces the light of Jesus as his first major topic in this letter. Light represents what is good, pure, true, holy, and reliable. On the other hand, darkness represents what is sinful and evil in us and in the world. God’s light means that God is as perfectly holy and always lives in His stated truths. He alone is the only one that can guide us out of the darkness of our sins. Light is also related to truth in that light exposes whatever exists, whether it is good or bad. In the dark, good and evil look alike; in the light, they can be clearly distinguished. Just as darkness cannot exist in the presence of light, sin cannot exist in the presence of a holy God.

Blessings
