Thursday – December 22nd - 1 John 10     -----

1:10) If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar, and His word is not in us.

The Daily Walk Bible inspirational thought for today:
LAY HOLD OF THE BIBLE UNTIL THE BIBLE LAYS HOLD OF YOU.*

Happy Thursday.  Our inspirational thought for today is spot on target for a person who has a desire to grow deeper in the faith, stronger in their commitment, and more powerful in their witness. The simplicity of this statement requires no additional comment from, instead I will provide avenues to open yourself up to the Bible. With 2023 less than ten days away, now is the time to put together your strategic plan for your personal discipleship growth. First, I highly recommend the Daily Walk Bible as a great resource to read through the entirety of scripture in one year. On Amazon (don’t forget the smile) the book is listed for $18 with arrival time well before January 1st.  Second, the first seven-week segment of the “Journey Of A Lifetime” Bible study will begin on Wednesday January 4th at 6:30pm. This class is an overview of each of the books of the Bible and can be taken in 6–7-week segments over the next 18 months. You can sign up at the events page on either the SunRise App or SunRise website. The cost for the entire set of workbooks is $15.

In our pick verse today, John closes out this first chapter by circling back around to the false claims made in verse eight, that we humans are by nature not sinful people. By being duped into this line of thinking that a person has never committed sin and hence has need no forgiveness denies the reality of God’s plan of salvation through the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus. Thus, such a person not only deceives themselves, but accuse God of being a liar. Do we really want to do that? Additionally, such a statement means that we have not allowed the word of the Gospel to transform either our heart or our conduct. The apostle Paul would say that we are still dead in our sins. Paul also warned the first century believers with a caution about false teachers that is still relevant today – “For the time will come when people will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths.” My friends, don’t let false teaching negate the reason we are celebrating the birth of our savior in a few days.

Blessings
