Thursday – December 29th – 1 John 2:12-14 -----
2:12) I am writing to you who are God’s children because your sins have been forgiven through Jesus.
13) I am writing to you who are mature in the faith because you know Christ, who existed from the beginning. I am writing to you who are young in the faith because you have won your battle with the evil one.
14) I have written to you who are God’s children because you know the Father. I have written to you who are mature in the faith because you know Christ, who existed from the beginning. I have written to you who are young in the faith because you are strong. God’s word lives in your hearts, and you have won your battle with the evil one.
The Daily Walk Bible inspirational thought for today:
THOSE WHO LOVE EVIL MAY OPPOSE GOD’S WAYS, BUT THEY CANNOT ESCAPE HIS WRATH.*
Thursday to you! Our inspirational today could easily come from the words of John, or Peter, or James, or Paul. Those New Testament writers had a common theme in mind when they were directed by the Holy Spirit to write their letters to first century believers. The human condition has been in opposition to God’s word, way, will, and when since the days of Adam and Eve. Each new generation is tempted by the Devil to belief that their rebellious actions will not be disciplined by God, but instead will serve to change God’s mind on what is and isn’t sinful. The Bible tells the story of each rebellion and how it didn’t end well for the rebellious person, group, or nation. What makes us think that it will be different with us? If you oppose God, you will not escape the penalty.
In our pick verses today, John continues to focus on how disciples are to always walk in and under God’s love. John lists the stages of belief – contrasted by the simple verbs “write” and “written” - as he pens these three verses. The commandment to love each other is appropriate for all ages and stages of the Christian life. As “Children” (those new to the faith) in Christ begin to experience God’s love they will recognize that their sins have been forgiven by Jesus’ death on the cross. Those who are more mature in the faith will draw on memories and multiple experiences of God’s generous grace in their life since being saved. Believers of every generation can rejoice because they have the promise of God’s power to overcome all temptation and evil.
Blessings
