2:24) So you must remain faithful to what you have been taught from the beginning. If you do, you will remain in fellowship with the Son and with the Father.

THE EVIDENCE FOR KNOWING GOD IS OBEYING GOD*
Happy Thursday to you! Our inspirational thought for today is perfect for the first week of 2023 (actually it is perfect for any week of any year). We have probably all experienced how easily it can be to talk about something, but how much harder it can be to live out what we talk about. The whole new year’s resolution industry is built on talk being cheap and results requiring work. To be a follower of Jesus we must first “follow”, and second “obey” the teachings of Jesus as we live our lives. The only way folks will really hear our words is to see them in our actions. Every appropriate action and reaction coming from a follower of Jesus is found within the pages of God’s Holy Word. When we read His word, we discover the ease and the joy of obedience. That my friends is the simplest way to witness to others.
In our pick verses today, John continues to expand on our call as disciples to walk in fellowship with Jesus. In contrast to those who readily deny the lordship and divine authority of Jesus, believers are to remain faithful to the message of the Gospel. For the first century believers these teachings were coming from the mouths of those who had either seen Jesus’ resurrection or had firsthand knowledge through someone who had witnessed Jesus risen from the dead. For them the doctrine of Jesus being the Savior of the world included believing in both His fully human and fully divine nature. If the gospel remains a living force in our lives, we will have an intimate fellowship with the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. This fellowship is the essence and foundation of eternal life.
