Thursday – February 16th – 1 John 5:14-15 -----
5:14) Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us.
15) And if we know that He hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we have asked of Him.
The Daily Walk Bible inspirational thought for today:
IF GOD LIGHTS THE CANDLE, NO ONE CAN BLOW IT OUT.*
Happy Thursday to you! A great program note for those in-building on Sunday for worship. Yes, it is our monthly Cini-Mini Sunday. Fresh baked cinnamon rolls from Bridge Bread will be available all morning. If you are not familiar with Bridge Bread, it is a ministry in St. Louis that employs homeless folks with the purpose to train them in the trade of baking. Over the years graduates of the Bridge Bread training program have found secure employment throughout the area and it has moved dozens of people into stable housing. If you are interested in learning more about Bridge Bread we will have a representative from the ministry with us on Sunday morning. Grab a Cini-Mini, a cup of coffee, and visit about how you can help make a difference in someone’s life.
In our pick verses today, John adds the important ingredient of confidence to his list of must haves for us to experience an abundant life as promised by Jesus. This confidence is also found in and through the assurance of answered prayers. As true believers, we should always seek to ask for everything according to God’s will. The secret to effective prayer is to first invest our time in knowing God’s will for our lives. John cautions all believers that no matter how appealing or attractive the world’s alternatives may seem, when we know God’s will, we can ask in faith and receive through confidence. For me it is a full-time job to prayerful discerning what is God’s will and what is my will that I want to impose on God. Thankfully, the Holy Spirit can work in us to reveal God’s word, God’s way, God’s will, and God’s when. All we have to do is set aside our own agendas and our culture’s opinions so that instead we will confidently trust God’s agenda for our lives.
Blessings
