Friday – February 17th – 1 John 5:16-17 -----
5:16) If anyone sees his brother sinning a sin which does not lead to death, he will ask, and He will give him life for those who commit sin not leading to death. There is sin leading to death. I do not say that he should pray about that.
17) All unrighteousness is sin, and there is sin not leading to death.
The Daily Walk Bible inspirational thought for today:
THE OBJECT OF TEACHING IS TO ENABLE THOSE TAUGHT TO GET ALONG WITHOUT A TEACHER.*
Hello Friday! I absolutely relate to today’s inspirational thought. Being a person who considers themselves more of a teacher than a preacher I understand the importance of knowing the difference. I even like to say that we champion a teaching time on Sunday morning instead of a sermon. This inspirational thought reminds me that my calling is to share the power of scripture with you so that it becomes ingrained into your everyday DNA. My goal is that I can help you grow in your faith journey that you are not dependent on me for your continued spiritual growth. There is nothing more satisfying than to experience folks when they produce the fruit of faith and become excited about sharing their faith with others. The more all of us grow as students the more God can use us to populate the Kingdom of Heaven.
In our pick verses today, John takes an even deeper step into the importance of effective prayer. Effective prayer is not intended to be limited to our own needs. We are to first and foremost be praying for others – their trials, their struggles, and their temptations. John brings up the subject of the sin leading to death and then explains it as that which we chose to do that permanently separates us from God. While God is always ready to forgive, we retain the power to reject God’s forgiveness and unconditional love. Not every backslider or believer overtaken in a sin has abandoned all concern for salvation. Many can be rescued from their defeat by our prayers, our support, and our encouragement. Both Judas and Peter sinned when they were with Jesus. Judas put himself beyond the reach of saving grace and was lost forever. Jesus prayed for Peter, and he came back with fully repentant heart. It is difficult for us to know exactly when a person has sinned beyond the point of no return, so we should keep praying for every backslider as long as there is any possibility of their repentance.
Blessings
