Monday – February 20th – Intro to 2 John -----
The Daily Walk Bible inspirational thought for today:
TO OVERLOOK ONE’S OWN FAULTS IS TO MISS A VALUABLE FREE EDUCATION.*
Hello Monday!! A great programing note for us as we start this new week. On Wednesday we will be celebrating the dispensation of ashes at the main SunRise campus. For those who like to start their Ash Wednesday earlier the church will be open for a come-and-go ashes between 7am and 8am. In the evening we will be holding an Ash Wednesday service at 7pm, this service will also be live-streamed for those unable to attend in person. Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of the season of Lent as we spend the time between now and Easter Sunday in self-reflection focusing on our individual commitment to God. My prayer is that we seek to use these next six weeks in drawing closer to the God who chose to die for our sins.
Today we launch into the second of John’s three letters to first century believers throughout the Roman Empire. This letter was written between 85-90 AD from the city of Ephesus at about the same time as 1 John. The primary purpose for this letter is to emphasize the importance of truth and love among believers and to warn against the relentless work of false teachers. John’s readers are doing their best to walk in the truth of the gospel, despite contrary teachings all around them. Once again, the major distraction for believers is dealing with teachings that challenge the fully divine and fully human nature of Jesus. When we accept, believe, or encourage false teachers of any type we are in essence sharing in their evil work.
Blessings
Pastor Jim
Tuesday – February 21st – 2 John 1:1
