Friday – February 24th – 1 John 1:5-6 -----
1:5) I am writing to remind you, dear friends, that we should love one another. This is not a new commandment, but one we have had from the beginning.
6) Love means doing what God has commanded us, and he has commanded us to love one another, just as you heard from the beginning.
The Daily Walk Bible inspirational thought for today:
SERVICE IS THE OVERFLOW OF SUPERABOUNDING DEVOTION.*
Happy Friday to you! Just a reminder that next Wednesday night the Journey of a Lifetime study resumes following our Ash Wednesday break of this week. Session two will kick off with an Introduction to the New Testament on Wednesday March 1st, followed by the four gospels and the book of Acts. If you have not yet joined the class, now would be an excellent time to jump in. We meet either in-building or live streamed at 6:30pm. On demand options are available after 8pm on Wednesday through the SunRise Church YouTube channel or the SunRise App available on your phones or smart TV. I am excited about what we will discover in the New Testament. For more information on the particulars for the class or the workbook please contact me at jdblue@sunrisefamily.org
In our pick verses today, John continues his teaching on the joy of loving as a follower of Jesus. We are reminded that to “love one another” is the consistent and unchanging commandment of the Bible. Enabled by the saving and sustaining grace of God, we are to walk in the joy of knowing that God loved us while we were still in full rebellion mode. The rest of God’s commandments show us how we are to carry out the great command to love others. The Bible also teaches that the commandment to love others is not a commandment to accept the sinful actions of others. We are to love the person, but we are not required to love their sin. Sometimes we lose track of the distinction between loving others and allowing their sins to affect us, others, or them. In fact, when we ignore, or discredit, or validate another person’s sin, we are not loving them in the way God intended Christian love to be defined.
Blessings
