Sunday – February 26th – 1 John 1:8 -----
1:8) Watch out that you do not lose what we have worked so hard to achieve. Be diligent so that you receive your full reward.
The Daily Walk Bible inspirational thought for today:
MANY ERRORS IN LIFE RESULT FROM AN INABILITY TO SIT STILL LONG ENOUGH TO READ WHAT GOD HAS WRITTEN.*
Hello Sunday! Our inspirational thought for today is an excellent reminder for us why worship, especially corporate worship, is important for our soul health. Among the many things that happen when we worship with others (either in-building or online) is that we must intentionally set aside the rest of life’s activities and focus on our relationship with Jesus. Each week worship includes the reading of God’s Holy Word, sometimes a verse or two and sometimes longer passages. No matter the length of the scripture, to fully immerse ourselves into the moment we must practice the spiritual gift of stillness. We are to listen to what the scriptures say and then allow the Holy Spirit to speak words of relevancy into our lives. Stillness and listening take lots of practice, especially in today’s noisy and busy culture. Do a little practicing today and throughout this coming week.
In our pick verse today, John continues to speak into the importance of discerning and distancing ourselves from false teachers and incorrect theology. John, as well as other church evangelists, had worked hard to establish his readers in the foundations of the Christian faith. False teachings have a tremendous appeal to people, because they usually strike at the heart of something we are uncertain about or even question in scripture. The devil tempts us to follow our head and not our heart when it comes to deciding what we like and don’t like about the call to discipleship. John is fearful that if these early believers now decided to follow false teachings and turn from the truth of the Gospel, they would lose the assurance of salvation that only comes through Jesus. We are reminded in scripture that the road to eternal life is through the narrow gate, but many instead are more easily drawn to the wide path that leads to destruction.
Blessings
