Monday – March 27th – Jude 1:16     -----

1:16) These are grumblers, complainers, walking according to their own lusts; and they mouth great swelling words, flattering people to gain advantage.

The Daily Walk Bible inspirational thought for today:
ONE TEST OF A PERSON’S STRENGTH IS THAT PERSON’S KNOWLEDGE OF HIS OR HER WEAKNESS.*

Happy Monday to you! Our inspirational thought for today is a perfect commentary on our current culture. We have become a society that is obsessed with discovering our strengths and weaknesses. We can take surveys or tests to know strengths or weaknesses in our relationships, in our health, in our nutrition, in our finances, in our work skills, and I am sure there are countless other “things” about us that we can uncover with a little self-reflection. However, it is my experience that the one area we tend to avoid is the strength and/or weaknesses in our discipleship growth. As humans we tend to spend an enormous amount of energy downplaying the correlation between the unchanging word of God and the desired pattern of our life. On this last Monday in March, make a commitment to spend some quality time reflecting on building up your spiritual strengths and identifying your spiritual weaknesses. When we allow God to give us the test the result is often the conviction of the sins fermenting in our lives.

In our pick verse today, Jude identifies the weaknesses of those whom he is calling out as false prophets and false teachers in the early church. Jude gives a graphic description of the ungodly ways these people act – easily summed up by stating they are self-centered and proud. While these characteristics were not always easily visible to the people back then, or even to us today, they reside on the underneath side of their outward appearance. The warning from Jude, is that before we throw our support and trust to a person who claims to be speaking on behalf of God, we should tap the brakes and observe them at a safe distance. First, we need to listen carefully to their words and compare them to the words and intent of scripture. Then we must seek to know if their “off the field” actions and lifestyle mesh with their persona and presentation in front of the crowds. These two steps are vital because our eternal life hangs in the balance.

Blessings
