Wednesday – April 26th – Revelation 2:6 -----
2:6) But this is in your favor: You hate the evil deeds of the Nicolaitans, just as I do.
The Daily Walk Bible inspirational thought for today:
IN THE BATTLE FOR YOUR HEART, ALLOW NO POCKETS OF RESISTANCE.*
Welcome to Wednesday! A quick look ahead on the SunRise events calendar shows that this coming Sunday – April 30th – is Family Ministry Worship at the 9:45am service. Elementary and Youth Sunday School Classes will not meet so that families can have the opportunity to worship together. Young people learn the importance of worship and can draw from the example of the adults around them to help form a good appreciation for the joy that comes from gathering with others to praise God. Of course, that means we adults need to make sure our “worship” is truly focused on connecting with God and giving God thanks for what we have been blessed with. What a great legacy we can pass along to the next generations of believers that are coming behind us. See you and your family this weekend at SunRise Church.
In our pick verse for today, John continues to record the words of Jesus that will be sent to the church in Ephesus. In the previous verses Jesus has pointed out the church’s loss of their first love, encourages them to change, and then sets out the penalty if they fail to follow his instructions. Today, Jesus lifts up a word of commendation as He states the church has successfully discerned the demonic spirit of a group of heretical teachers. The Nicolaitans (probably the “evil” people referred to in verse 2) taught that the human body was evil, therefore, it did not matter what a person did with it. This perverted view served to openly encourage sexual promiscuity among believers. It is important to remember that the city of Ephesus was the home to the fertility goddess Diana and her temple housed hundreds of male and female prostitutes that would be used as part of the temple worship practices. The Devil will always use our weaknesses to tempt us into acting outside the will of God. Jesus was straightforward in stating that He hated those who led others away for a true relationship with God.
Blessings
