Thursday – May 4th – Revelation 2:14-15 ------
2:14) “But I have a few complaints against you. You tolerate some among you whose teaching is like that of Balaam, who showed Balak how to trip up the people of Israel. He taught them to sin by eating food offered to idols and by committing sexual sin.
15) In a similar way, you have some Nicolaitans among you who follow the same teaching.
The Daily Walk Bible inspirational thought for today:
CONFESSION WITHOUT CHANGE IS JUST A GAME.*
Good Thursday to you! Our inspirational thought for today strikes at the heart of our relationship with God. Through the death of Jesus on the cross the penalty of our sins have been taken care of by Him. However, this is not a blanket forgiveness for all humanity. Our part of being freed from our sin is centered in the act of confession required of each person. And even then, just stating words of confession only puts us on the path of discipleship. Every moment of confession is to be followed by a change in our actions, our attitudes, and/or our thoughts. Failure to change merely puts us on a vicious circle of buying into the false preaching of a cheap gospel.
In our pick verses for today, Jesus brings His complaint against the believers in Pergamum. While there is room for differences of opinion among Christians in some areas, there is no room for heresy and moral impurity. This was the charge against the Pergamum believers, they willingly tolerated known false teachings and allowed them to continue to be taught as authentic teachings. Balak was a king who feared the large number of Israelites traveling through his country, so he hired Balaam to pronounce a curse on them. However, Balaam refused at first, but an offer of money changed his mind. Later Balaam influenced the Israelites to turn to idol worship. Like Balaam, these false teachers were leading the Pergamum believers away for the truth of the Gospel.
Blessings
