Monday – May 29, Revelation 3:17 -----
3:17) Because you say, 'I am rich, have become wealthy, and have need of nothing'--and do not know that you are wretched, miserable, poor, blind, and naked—
The Daily Walk Bible inspirational thought for today:
A CHRISTIAN WITH ABSOLUTELY NO DOUBTS OR QUESTIONS IS OVERLOOKING SOMETHING.*
Happy Monday and Happy Memorial Day to you. I hope you have great and fun plans for this unofficial day to kick-off summer. In case you are not aware of the background for Memorial Day, it actually started as “Decoration Day” for the graves of civil war soldiers. Over the years it has transformed into a day where we remember all who have died by decorating the graves of loved ones. And even more recently the solemness of today has been overshadowed by a “day off” and viewed from my first church at the Lake of the Ozarks as a long weekend at the lake. I hope you do take a moment to remember those who have finished their earthly race. Especially remember those who gave their lives in the service of our country so that we might have a day to enjoy our freedoms.
In our pick verse today, Jesus speaks some harsh truth to the believers in Laodicea. His contrast of the immense wealth of the city, and certainly of several members of the Laodicean church community, with their spiritual poverty was intended to get their attention. By trusting in their personal wealth instead of the riches that come from God significantly contributed to the Laodiceans spiritual bankruptcy. One of the greatest sins we can commit is that we do not give God credit for our blessings. Everything we have, every penny in our bank accounts, every car in our driveway, every possession we possess, comes from God. The Laodiceans are not unique in trusting in their wealth, nor are they unique in growing complacent with God because of what they think they acquired from their own abilities. On this day of remembrance, please take a moment to give God thanks for your many blessings.
Blessings
