Wednesday – July 5th – Revelation 6:6 -----
6:6) And I heard a voice from among the four living beings say, “A loaf of wheat bread or three loaves of barley will cost a day’s pay. And don’t waste the olive oil and wine.”
The Daily Walk Bible inspirational thought for today:
CHILD TRAINING IS CHIEFLY A MATTER OF KNOWING WHICH END OF THE CHILD TO PAT—AND WHEN.*
Welcome to Wednesday! I know that many folks like to plan ahead and have their monthly calendars all filled out so nothing awesome gets overlooked. So today, let me remind you that on Sunday July 23rd we will be hosting our annual SunRise Church Picnic. Immediately following the 9:45am service we will gather in the McClure parking lot for food, fun, fellowship, cornhole tournament, games for the kids, and of course music. Check out the full description of activities on the events page at either the website or church app. Please follow the sign-up link so we can be sure and have plenty of food and drinks on hand.
In our pick verse today, John’s vision of the prophesied world-wide famine ushered in by the rider on the black horse is given more understanding. Wheat and barley will be scarce and thus will be very expensive. At the same time oil and wine will still be available at a great cost. While the famine will be extremely severe, it will not be total in its scope. This part of God’s judgement is preliminary not final. First century readers of John’s vision would have interpreted the cost of the wheat and barley as being twelve to fifteen times what they were used to paying. What a person could earn in a day would buy only enough food for themselves for that day. There would not be enough for even their own family members. As we read the catastrophic events that will someday happen you can see why it is important right now to be praying for, and witnessing to, those who have not yet said yes to Jesus.
Blessings
