Wednesday – August 30th – Revelation 11:1 -----
11:1) Then I was given a reed like a measuring rod. And the angel stood, saying, "Rise and measure the temple of God, the altar, and those who worship there.
The Daily Walk Bible inspirational thought for today:
DOES YOUR LIFE AFFIRM THE REALITY OF GOD OR UNDERMINE IT?*
Happy Wednesday to you! What a great inspirational thought for us to ponder as we hit the mid-week mark today. Both external accountability and internal inventory are vital for a healthy faith journey. We should always seek out the feedback of trusted Christian friends as an extra set of eyes on how we are living out our calling as a follower of Jesus. Equally important to our spiritual growth is an ongoing self-evaluation of exactly what our inspirational thought suggests. I need to ask my friends, and myself, if my life’s actions affirm the reality of God or if instead, I am doing damage to the Kingdom of Heaven. Great stuff to contemplate on this last Wednesday in August.
With our pick verse today, we start a new chapter in the book of Revelation. As we open this eleventh chapter John continues the interlude inserted between the sixth trumpet and the eventual sounding of the seventh trumpet. This section is filled with a message of patience, hope, and encouragement for God’s people who are still on the earth. He is instructed to measure the temple and then number those who are worshipping God. These two acts will give encouragement to believers that God will protect and sustain them during the final tribulation before Christ’s return – even though they will be persecuted they will be protected as well. It is interesting to note that when John’s vision occurs the temple had been destroyed by the Romans some 30 years earlier. This could be taken as a hint of a futuristic rebuilt Temple that must be constructed before these events take place.
