12:4) His tail drew a third of the stars of heaven and threw them to the earth. And the dragon stood before the woman who was ready to give birth, to devour her Child as soon as it was born.

The Daily Walk Bible inspirational thought for today:
TRUSTING GOD IS NOT FAITH WITHOUT EVIDENCE; IT IS COMMITMENT WITHOUT RESERVATION.*

Good Monday to you! Our inspirational thought today is a perfect follow up to yesterday’s teaching from Hebrews 11:1-2. Faith can be defined in a lot of different ways, usually depending on the subject matter of our faith’s focus. We can have faith in the sun coming up each morning. This is faith based on proven fact – in the case of the sun it has happened every day in the history of the world. We can have faith in our favorite sports team winning the championship. That kind of faith is based on more wishing than anything else. Players decline in ability or get hurt in the opening minutes of the season, or just have an off day - and with it a trophy can easily slide away. The greatest kind of faith is what we draw upon to secure our salvation and eternal presence with God. This faith is based on our commitment to trusting the promise of God as contained in the word of God. Is your relationship with God based on commitment without any reservation?

In our pick verse today, John focuses on the power of the red dragon as it makes its appearance in his vision. Like the “woman” this dragon had existed throughout the ages. While verse nine names him as the devil or Satan, God sees him as a vile dragon attempting to destroy humanity's relationship with Him. The dragon’s sweeping tail which drew down a third of the stars is a figurative description of Satan’s great power and influence. John also sees a repulsive example of the dragon’s hatred and rage as it stood over the woman waiting to devour her child the moment it was born. The battlelines for this war were drawn early on, in the Garden of Eden between God and Satan. God’s pronouncement of Satan’s destruction by Jesus in Genesis 3:15 was about to be fulfilled. The devil was well aware of the outcome but was still waging his war against the believers left on earth.
