Wednesday – November 8th – Revelation 15:3 -----
15:3) They sing the song of Moses, the servant of God, and the song of the Lamb, saying: "Great and marvelous are Your works, Lord God Almighty! Just and true are Your ways, O King of the saints!
The Daily Walk Bible inspirational thought for today:
OUR SENSE OF SIN IS IN PROPORTION TO OUR NEARNESS TO GOD.*
Happy Wednesday to you! Our inspirational thought is perfect for a midweek check in our how our spiritual disciplines are going this week. Notice I didn’t use the terms spiritual journey or spiritual growth as the element for us to gauge, but the more focused term of disciplines. We can best realize and identify the presence of sin in our own lives when we engage in practicing the spiritual disciplines of Christianity. As a refresher (for me and for you) here is John Wesley’s list of spiritual disciplines we should regularly practice – meditation, prayer, fasting, searching the scriptures, works of mercy (service), worship including receiving the Lord’s supper. When these are practiced in our own lives then we are better able to be drawn near to God and further away from sin.
In our pick verse today, we carry over the image painted by John of those who were victorious in their earthly battles now standing on the sea of glass holding harps of God. In their perfect worship of God, they first sing the song of Moses. That great hymn celebrated the power of God in bringing His People to freedom from slavery in the land of Egypt. The theme of the second song, “the song of the Lamb”, echoes the first. God who saved the Old Testament people in the song of Moses, was now saving the people of the New Testament through the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus. As Christians we fully identify as people of both the Old and New Testaments, so both songs tell the history of our freedom from sin and death.
Blessings
