Yes, it is already Friday! I know we are still a few weeks away from 2024, but it is never too early to begin formulating a plan for the new year. In our pick verse today, John continues to write his observations of what is unfolding on the earth. The focus of this segment is God’s judgement and punishment on the great prostitute. To make sense of today’s verse it is important to understand that the prostitute is the last manifestation of human culture as it exists apart from God, arrogant and independent. As such she represents all that is corrupt in civilization, especially the corrupt combination of politics and religion that flaunts justice and oppresses most of its citizens. Not only were these leaders led astray morally, the harlot promised them the pleasures of the world and the flesh, but instead she delivered the pain of a drunken stupor.
