In our pick verse today, John’s vision fast forwards to the end of this battle between the devil’s worldly kings and the forces of Heaven. This verse also re-connects what was recorded back in 16:14, when the beast gathered the kings of the whole world. The angel at this point doesn’t elaborate on the particulars of this final war, only the outcome – that the Lamb of God will overcome them. His victory is assured because He is the King of Kings and has no equal anywhere on earth. The Lamb who was found worthy to take the Judgement Scroll (5:9) now carries out His mighty judgement against the beast. This is the second coming of Christ, earlier described as the vintage of grapes with a river of blood (14:17-20)
