WHERE THERE IS NO FAITH IN THE FUTURE, THERE IS NO POWER IN THE PRESENT.*
Welcome to Thursday. Our inspirational thought is a timely reminder that as we begin to wind down 2023 and look forward to what 2024 has in store for us, that “faith” is the key to embracing whatever chaos may be in our lives. As followers of Jesus, we understand that God has promised us eternal life in Heaven when our time on earth is completed. Faith is required of us to live under the power of that promise. We are short on hard evidence that what we read in scripture is truthful. It is only through faith that we believe in salvation through God’s grace. When we plan our lives with faith in God’s plan for our future, we can live today confident that God’s present power is on our side. There is nothing in all creation that compares to what God does in and through us.
In our pick verse today, John continues to record the straightforward words of commendation against rebellious humanity. The indictment against the remnant of human civilization in the last days is summed two-fold in this verse. First, Babylon corrupted the nations of the world leading to widespread and blatant immoralities. The “wine” represents all the allurements that civilization has at its disposal to tempt humans. The immorality, in part, will be found in corrupt religion which can misguide others on God’s good gift of sexuality. The wicked harlot in her final incarnation, led the people away from God’s truth concerning both pure and right religion and the right use of God ordained sexual practices. We will examine part two of this verse tomorrow.
