Saturday – December 30th – Revelation 18:3 (part 3) -----
18:3) For all the nations have fallen because of the wine of her passionate immorality. The kings of the world have committed adultery with her. Because of her desires for extravagant luxury, the merchants of the world have grown rich.”
The Daily Walk Bible inspirational thought for today:
TIME HAS NO POWER OVER THE NAME AND DEEDS AND WORDS OF JESUS CHRIST.*
Welcome to Saturday! This weekend we wrap up our Advent/Christmas/New Years series “Embracing The Chaos”. While the holiday season is almost behind us, I can assure you that if your life is like mine, then chaos will not be packed away with the Christmas tree. Life is filled with ongoing chaos, learning how to deal with it makes all the difference between being overcome by chaos or embracing chaos. Join us Sunday for the final installment in Embracing The Chaos - UnWavering Commitment -as seen through the story of Jonah. This is also “wear your flannel shirt Sunday”, and at 9:45am will be our Family Ministry worship gathering. So, bring the whole family and invite some guests to close out 2023 learning how to embrace the chaos.
In our pick verse today, we conclude our three section look at verse three in chapter eighteen. John is recording this lengthy indictment from his angel guide leveled against what remains of human civilization in the final days of earth. The third part of this verse implicates that in the fall of Babylon (civilization) the merchants of the world will not escape God’s wrath. Because of humanity’s unceasing and unchecked demand for more comfort, more possessions, and sensual gratification they grew rich and abundantly powerful from her excessive luxuries. This verse pictures unrestrained materialism, the obsessive pursuit of comfort, and unbridled sensual gratification as having the power to bring wealth to those who satisfy the world’s basest desires. It is important to note that for the proper content of this verse normal commerce and trade are not condemned here as inherently evil, only commerce and trade that runs amuck with no consideration for the well-being of others. I must admit that the climate of civilization today has a scary familiarity to what John is seeing unfold before him. It is hard to imagine how much worse things will become before God steps in to bring the world to a close.
Blessings
