Sunday – January 7th – Revelation 18:10 -----
18:10) They will stand at a distance, terrified by her great torment. They will cry out, “How terrible, how terrible for you, O Babylon, you great city! In a single moment God’s judgment came on you.”
The Daily Walk Bible inspirational thought for today:
THE BEST WAY TO FACE LIFE’S CHANGES IS TO FACE THE UNCHANGING GOD.*
Hello Sunday. Our inspirational thought today is a perfect tie-in to our new series “When Your Way Isn’t Working”. One of the first things we must do when our way falls short is to determine the source of our information. Where do we turn to fill our minds and hearts with goals and direction. The Bible is clear in stating that the thoughts of humans fall far short of God’s wisdom. If we are satisfied with sub-standard earthly based goals for our life, then we probably would say our way is working. When we place our eyes on the author and perfecter of our faith, then doing our best for the Kingdom of Heaven requires us to be connected to the unchanging face of God. When you take time to worship today, be sure and seek the solid rock connection that comes through Jesus.
In our pick verse today, the lament of the kings and powerbrokers of earth is recorded by John. The rich and powerful are terrified at what they see happening to the one to in whom they had placed their trust. Their dirge includes similar elements that will be repeated by the merchants and mariners in the next verses. Their cries of “how terrible” are also translated as “woe” is a guttural wail that could also be translated as “horror”. They are utterly dumbfounded that such a powerful city/civilization could become dead and powerless. As rulers, they were addicted to power and all that comes with it. They are not so much grieved by the death of the city as by their own loss of power and prestige.
Blessings
