Friday – April 23rd – Colossians 2:4-5 ----
2:4 Now this I say lest anyone should deceive you with persuasive words.
5 For though I am absent in the flesh, yet I am with you in spirit, rejoicing to see your good order and the steadfastness of your faith in Christ.
The Daily Walk Bible inspirational thought for Friday:
THE MORE A PERSON TAKES THE NEEDS OF OTHERS TO HEART, THE MORE HE OR SHE WILL TAKE HIS OR HER OWN HEART TO GOD.*
Good Friday to you. As we read the inspirational thought for today, I need to add a little context to the statement. This thought frames today’s reading from 2 Chronicles in the Old Testament during the transition from the reign of King Solomon to the eventual division of the kingdom into the northern and southern kingdoms. At the heart of the story is the cold heart of Solomon's son who refused to have consideration and passion for the people of the nation. This story reminds me that Jesus did not introduce the need to have love for others, it was present hundreds of years prior to His birth. God has always desired for us to have a heart for the needs of others which in turn draws our heart closer to God. Some things never change.
In our pick verses for today Paul continues his warning of getting caught up in human centered (and devil inspired) philosophies that challenge the word of God. Paul cautions the believers in Colosse to not let the persuasive, yet deceptive words of false teachers lead them from the true wisdom that comes from Jesus. False teachings typically had just enough truth in them to make the untruth believable and acceptable, especially when it can validate our own mis-guide thoughts. Even though Paul was not having face to face interaction with the Colossians, he knows that the spirit and power of God could bridge any distance when we celebrate a common ground of a firm commitment to Jesus. Who might be at a geographical distance from you today that could benefit from your lifting in prayer?
