Monday – May 3rd – Colossians 2:20-22
2:20 Therefore, if you died with Christ from the basic principles of the world, why, as though living in the world, do you subject yourselves to regulations--
21 "Do not touch, do not taste, do not handle,"
22 which all concern things which perish with the using--according to the commandments and doctrines of men?
The Daily Walk Bible inspirational thought for today:
WE WOULD WORRY LESS ABOUT WHAT OTHERS THINK OF US IF WE REALIZED HOW SELDOM THEY DO.*
Happy Monday to you! I pray your week is off to a great start and that you have eyes wide open to see those who might benefit from experiencing an example of God’s unconditional love and amazing grace in their life. I would encourage you to think back about a time when you were on the receiving end of God’s love and grace as made manifest through someone else. How did that experience make you feel? Today seize the opportunity to share that blessing with someone else.
Today our pick verses continue Paul’s teaching on the benefit of following Jesus instead of the legalist rules created by humans. We can be certain that if we have died to ourselves through Jesus, we have been delivered from the penalty of our sinful actions. Therefore, Paul instructs the Colossians, they do not need to follow the many regulations of the false teachers. Paul includes the false teachings from verse 21 which deal only with outward self-denial, and not the more important inward spiritual transformations. Such commandments and requirements come from the mind of humans and not from the throne of God. Those who follow them seek to earn their own salvation instead of trusting in Christ alone. We need to be fully aware of the slight deviations to God’s way that may gently and quietly lead us away from the truth of God’s plan.
Blessings
