2:13 For this reason we also thank God without ceasing, because when you received the word of God which you heard from us, you welcomed it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which also effectively works in you who believe.

Good Sunday to you! Yes, we have reached a great day to worship and praise God. I am excited that more and more people each week are beginning the journey back to in-building worship. If you are in the O’Fallon area you can join us at either 9am or 11am at the SunRise campus. All three of our remote campuses are back to in-person worship at The Landing, The Villas, and Delmar Garden. And if you still enjoy worshiping on-line then we invite you to join us at 5pm Saturday, 8am Sunday, or 11am Sunday. On-demand options are available as early as Saturday morning on Vimeo, YouTube, or the SunRise Church O’Fallon app. We are celebrating that we passed the 600th app download this week. You folks rock!!
In our pick verse for today Paul makes an interesting and necessary transition in his teachings from the important of integrity in ministry to the reality that following Jesus often brings suffering. I am not a public relations expert, but it seems to me that this type of upfront honesty about being a disciple could cause some people to shy away from saying yes. Paul is convinced that the benefits of discipleship far outweigh the struggles we encounter along the way. Our verse today points to the certainty that it is God’s word that can and will effectively work in us who believe. For that word to be effective and protective, we must receive it as the complete and truthful word of God. John 1 reminds us that the word of God became flesh and walked among us. When we embrace the truth about Jesus, we embrace the truth of God’s holy and perfect word.
