Welcome to Friday! The last day of SunRise VBS 2021 is today. It has been a great week and today always brings moments of great joy through the new bonds that have been formed by kids, youth, and adults that have learned together that they are God’s priceless treasure. The great news is that you did not have to attend VBS this week for you to also be a priceless treasure. Every person is created in the image and likeness of God which qualifies us as a masterpiece of the Almighty. As masterpieces of the creator, we are also given direct access to Him through prayer. Today’s inspirational thought challenges us to review our conversations with God and see if we speak more in demands than we do in opportunity. What great reminder as we enter the weekend, and prepare ourselves to worship God as a priceless treasure.
In our pick verses today, we open the final chapter in Paul’s first letter to the Thessalonian believers. Paul moves us from his previous topic of finding comfort in Jesus’ return to now instructing us on how to prepare for this great moment in history. Paul is confident in Jesus’ return but is not able to predict when it will happen. We are to always be ready. The teachings Paul employs to instruct the first century believers on end times were based on the words of Jesus recorded in Matthew 24. The day of the Lord refers to Jesus’ return and to the events that will follow, including the final judgement. It is important to note that this “day” is not necessarily a 24-hour period. Jesus’ return will be as surprising and unexpected as the coming of a thief in the night. With the unknown and unannounced return of Jesus we must be ready and have our spiritual life in order. If Jesus returned before you finish reading this blog, would you need to ask Him to wait so you could put your life in order?
