Friday – November 19th – Titus 1:10-11     -----

1:10) For there are many insubordinate, both idle talkers and deceivers, especially those of the circumcision,
11) whose mouths must be stopped, who subvert whole households, teaching things which they ought not, for the sake of dishonest gain.

The Daily Walk Bible inspirational thought for today:
IF THE YOUNG COULD BE OLD FOR A DAY, THEY WOULD NEITHER FEAR SO MUCH GROWING OLD NOR FOOLISHLY SQUANDER THE DAYS OF THEIR YOUTH.*

Happy Friday to you! Yes, we have reached the last day of the week. My prayer is that you have been a positive force for the Kingdom of Heaven this week. The inspirational thought for today certainly gives us much to think about. What great wisdom and insight to the secret of the joy of life. We are to take each day and enjoy it for the blessings God gives us, for the wisdom we gain from challenges, and celebrate the opportunities we have to represent the God who gave us life. Don’t wait until you are old to accomplish great things for God, and don’t fear getting old because the best is yet ahead.

In our pick verses today, we transition to one of Paul’s often addressed subjects in his letters – dealing with false teachers. Every church community throughout the ages has had to deal with those who intentionally or unintentionally promote teachings and ideas that are not fully based on scripture. On the island of Crete these false teachers were insubordinate to church leaders and church authority. They talked nonsense and deceived all those who would listen to them. Paul suggested that these false teachers were probably Jewish Christians whose teachings were in some way contradictory to the message of the Gospel. In verse eleven Paul uses the phrase “mouths be shut”, whose Greek translation meant “mouths muzzled”. These false teachers had to be stopped because whole households were being turned aside from a true faith in Jesus. The more things change the more they stay the same. Our best defense against false teachings today is to spend time immersed in God’s word and in Christian conversation.

Blessings
