Saturday – December 11th – Philemon 1:7-8     -----

1:7) For we have great joy and consolation in your love, because the hearts of the saints have been refreshed by you, brother.
8) Therefore, though I might be very bold in Christ to command you what is fitting,

The Daily Walk Bible inspirational thought for today:
THE TRUE MEANING OF THE GOSPEL IS NOT WHAT A PERSON SAYS ABOUT IT, BUT HOW IT CHANGES HIS OR HER LIFE.*

Good Saturday to you and yours! The weekend means worship and what a great worship weekend we have planned for SunRise. We are celebrating the third Sunday of the season of Advent in our series “Expect The Unexpected”.  The 9:45am inbuilding worship service will include a guest appearance by members of our SunRise weekday preschool who will share a couple of songs from their recent Christmas program. You don’t want to miss all the cuteness of our little ones singing about the season of Christmas.

Our pick verses today straddle Paul’s previous topic of extending his greetings to Philemon and introducing the reason for this particular letter. Paul lifts up the ministry of Philemon that was seen and experienced as refreshing in the eyes of the Lord. Philemon had encouraged the hearts of fellow Christians by carrying out concrete acts of goodness and mercy. Paul will soon want him to show that same refreshing spirit when he brings up Onesimus. Paul understands that the relationship between him and Philemon are one of two mature Christians. Therefore, Paul is setting up his request based on their mutual love for Jesus and their shared faith in the message of the Gospel. Paul knew that he could apply the appropriate amount of pressure in this appeal for the sake of Onesimus. When we are mature in our faith, we are able to speak to other mature believers with a greater sense of firmness based in God’s love for us.

Blessings
  Pastor Jim
Sunday – December 12th – Titus 1:9
