Saturday – March 19th – Hebrews 10:28-29     -----

10:28)   Anyone who has rejected Moses' law dies without mercy on the testimony of two or three witnesses.
29) Of how much worse punishment, do you suppose, will he be thought worthy who has trampled the Son of God underfoot, counted the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified a common thing, and insulted the Spirit of grace?

The Daily Walk Bible inspirational thought for today:
MOST OF US DON’T PUT OUR BEST FOOT FORWARD UNTIL WE GET THE OTHER ONE IN HOT WATER.*

Good Saturday to you! We have arrived at yet another weekend – the last Saturday before spring officially arrives. This is weekend number three in the season of Lent and the third week of our “Back To Egypt” series. Our inspirational thought today lines up perfectly with our teaching from Exodus for tomorrow. The Hebrew nation grows impatient with Moses as he is on Mount Sinai receiving among other things the ten commandments from God. While not specifically stating that they want to go back to Egypt, they instead want to bring Egypt to them. When caught worshiping a golden calf they immediately seek to repent and put their best foot forward, but only after they had firmly planted their other foot in the hot water of worshiping idols. Week # 3 holds some exciting insights how we can avoid our own form of hot water idol worship. Join us for inbuilding (8am or 9:45am), livestream (9:45am), or on-demand any time after 11am.

Today in our pick verses we shift our focus from drawing near to God in faith to a challenge from our author to not abandon believing in the Son of God. In the early church there was a constant temptation to renounce faith in Jesus in order to avoid family rejection and/or societal persecution. Believers were expected to encourage each other to be strong in the faith. It is important for us to realize that persecution of believers did not end in the first century church but is still leveled against believers today all around the world. In our verses today we are reminded that the salvation provided by the sacrifice of Jesus was perfectly effective whereas the sacrifices through Moses (and the High Priests) was not able to provide a salvation experience. By contrast, if the one who rebelled against Moses was severely punished, how much worse punishment will be received by the one who stubbornly turns away from the Son of God. Friends, that is why it is important for us to be engaged in witnessing about Jesus to not-yet-believers.

Blessings
