Wednesday – March 23rd – Hebrews 10:38-39     -----

10:38)   Now the just shall live by faith; But if anyone draws back, My soul has no pleasure in him."
39) But we are not of those who draw back to perdition, but of those who believe to the saving of the soul.

The Daily Walk Bible inspirational thought for today:
THE NUMBER OF TIMES THE AVERAGE PERSON SAYS NO TO TEMPTATION IS ONCE WEAKLY.*

Welcome to Wednesday and our middle of the week check-in reminder. Our inspirational thought today is one of those mentally challenging head-scratchers. On first reading it would be easy to think – wow, great – isn’t it impressive that we have such great resistance against temptation. Then when you read this statement closer, you probably pick up that the word to end the sentence is “weakly” and not “weekly”. That changes the whole dynamics of the statement. This statement is not referring to a measurement of time but more correctly the strength of our resistance. The devil is a master at knowing our personal and individual weaknesses and then with laser focused precision presents temptations that strike at the heart of our weakness. The average person will only be able to resist weakly a time or two before giving in, but a person leaning into the power of the Holy Spirit has all the tools needed to successfully resist the devil’s best temptations.

In our pick verses today, the author closes out chapter 10 and his focus on the importance of our staying connected to Jesus through both the thick and thin of life. In verse thirty-seven the author quotes from the Old Testament prophet Habakkuk who reminds us that we shall live our lives by faith. For the “just”, those who live in a right relationship with God, they will find the necessary strength and peace to stay close to God through both times of suffering and when the devil comes tempting. As humans our lives are filled within a constant state of choices. We can choose to withdraw our allegiance from God and fall back into a sinful and a reckless life (perdition), or we can choose to remain faithful to God and be intentional in our journey in disciples and spiritual growth. The choice is there for us every day, and the evil one is constantly attempting to present a better option for us to follow. I will pray we all remain strong in the faith and seek to draw added encouragement from each other.

Blessings
