Good Saturday to you! Our inspirational thought today is filled with powerful inspiration for those who desire to be a faith-filled follower of Jesus. Interestingly this statement is connected to the readings from 2 Chronicles wherein the division of the kingdom of Israel is unfolding. Solomon’s son, who is stepping in as the new king, is given the choice to either have the best interest of the people at heart, or rule from a self-serving perspective. Sadly, he chooses to follow the advice of those who refused to consider the needs of others. Rehoboam’s decision to disrespect his people uncovered his own disrespect for God. How we serve others is directly proportional to our heart for God. What do our actions and activities say about us?
In our pick verse today, we continue to seek the steps God sets out for our pursuit of spiritual holiness. While we are created by God for the purpose of relationship and we have the Holy Spirit who is our spiritual guide, as humans we are still free-choice people. God’s grace is available to sustain peace and holiness in our daily lives. As believers we are encouraged not to fall short of growing into a cleansed heart. As the author points out, a poisonous root of jealousy in our heart will cause us trouble throughout our life. Such unchecked jealousy can contaminate our every relationship, including the church itself by disrupting the peace that God desires to surround His people. The Holy Spirit is waiting to help us rid ourselves of jealousy or anything else that separates us from living in peace.
