Monday – May 2nd – Hebrews 13:1-2 -----
13:1) Let brotherly love continue.
2) Do not forget to entertain strangers, for by so doing some have unwittingly entertained angels.

Happy Monday my blog reading friends. The beginning of a new week and a new month are what greets us today. I always view May as the perfect transitional month on the calendar. What begins as the last vestiges of early spring arriving – rain, roller-coaster temperatures, heavy pollen environment – ends the month with the promise of the warmer days, increased daylight, and the first official holiday of the summer season. In between we celebrate Mother’s Day, graduations, and the end of the school year. Yes, a lot will happen during the month of May and with it a lot of potential distractions in our staying connected to Jesus. Be sure with a calendar full of “to do’s” you don’t forget time with the only one who can fill us with peace and perspective.
In our pick verses today, we launch into the final chapter of the book of Hebrews and into a new topic for our author – “How to love each other”. What a powerful, important, and timely topic to explore through the pages of scripture. The author opens the chapter with the simple encouragement to let love continue. In the mind of our author “brotherly love” means to remember and act on behalf of those in need. One example is the instruction for believers to show hospitality to and welcome strangers in Christian love. The author is reminding the Jewish readers of this letter that both Lot (Genesis 19:1-3) and Manoah (Judges 14:15-19) entertained strangers who were actually angels on a mission from God. Not that we do it for the reward, but God blesses those who loving show hospitality to others. Who might cross your path this week that is need of Christian love and hospitality?
