Thursday – June 16th – James 1:25     -----
1: 25)    But he who looks into the perfect law of liberty and continues in it, and is not a forgetful hearer but a doer of the work, this one will be blessed in what he does.
The Daily Walk Bible inspirational thought for today:
Good Thursday to you! A quick reminder for those folks who grabbed a VBS supply request over the last few weeks. All items need to be in this week – preferably before Sunday if possible – so the VBS team can make sure we have plenty of supplies available for our first day on Monday June 20th. VBS is one of my favorite times of the church year. This year will be a special blessing as we are almost 100% back to pre-covid numbers of kids and volunteers. There is noting more exciting than a building full of activity for those five mornings. Singing, dancing, crafts, water sports, and Bible stories provide the foundation for kids (and adults) to develop a relationship with Jesus. Yes, it is more than just a fun week, it is also a week intended to introduce people to the unconditional love of Jesus. It is never too late to volunteer or even sign up a kid or two for VBS 2022.
In our pick verse for today James continues to drive home the importance that our serving God means a life also committed to obeying God. In this verse James’ usage of the phrase “the perfect law” refers to God’s unchanging laws and commandments as found in the pages of scripture. These divine instructions become the implanted word of God written in our hearts. When we follow God’s law, we can/will live in freedom from the power of sin. The reason we can freely choose to obey God’s law is because in our transformed and renewed life we love God and love our neighbor more than we love ourselves. We are thus able to obey because God’s grace frees us from the penalty of a life of sinful rebellion. Being a fully committed follower of Jesus is not accomplished by checking a box of agreement but requires round the clock awareness of what we must do to be a positive and powerful representative of the Kingdom of Heaven.
