Tuesday – July 26th – James 4:8     -----

4:8) Come near to God and he will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded.

The Daily Walk Bible inspirational thought for today:
GOD CAN DO MORE IN A MOMENT THAN PEOPLE COULD IN A MILLENNIUM.*

Good Tuesday to you! Our inspirational verse for today is one worth taking an extra moment or two to ponder. We twenty-first century north Americans are a busy group of folks. If aliens were observing us from outer space, they would quickly conclude that we must always be doing something to stay busy. Somehow, we have equated being overly busy with our self-worth. I have seen that same philosophy spill over into the life of the church. The busier a church is the better the church is – at least that is the mantra often uttered by mis-guided church experts. In all reality, what a too busy lifestyle creates is simply exhausted people and poor results. Our inspirational thought reminds us, in an Ecclesiastes way, that all of our efforts pale in comparison to the work of God. And since God’s work is always pure and perfect, we should invest our time in serving and witnessing, and maybe slowing down to enjoy the creation God has placed us in and the people God has surrounded us with in our life.

In our pick verse today, James adds yet another weapon to our spiritual warfare arsenal. Intentional prayer, complete submission to God, and a focused resistance to the devil are primary to our victory over temptation. Today we add the command to draw closer to God. So how do we draw near to God? The first thing we can do is to humble ourselves before God – embracing God’s wisdom, and will, and word, by replacing any personal our corporate agenda we might harbor in our hearts/minds. In this verse we are to symbolically wash our hands and purify our hearts from the tug of sin that infects our lives so in turn we may lead a pure and righteous life. There is such comfort and assurance in knowing that God is willing to meet us on our spiritual journey. As we draw nearer to Him, He is drawing nearer to us. And when we met the gates of hell will shake and the devil will tremble.

Blessings
