Wednesday – July 27th – James 4:9-10     -----

4:9)   Grieve, mourn and wail. Change your laughter to mourning and your joy to gloom.
10) Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up.

The Daily Walk Bible inspirational thought for today:
FREEDOM IS A TWO-SIDED COIN: ON ONE SIDE IS PRIVILEGE; ON THE OTHER, RESPONSIBILITY.*

Welcome to Wednesday! What a great inspirational thought for us today. While my first thought in reading it went to the freedoms we enjoy as a nation, I think the author’s intentions were for us to instead consider our spiritual freedoms we gain through our relationship with Jesus. When we give our lives over to Jesus we are freed from the eternal wages of sin and death. We become free from the bondage of being connected to the devil through our sinful actions. This God-given spiritual freedom is a gift that carries with it the responsibility to share with others what we have discovered about Jesus. Who do you know that needs to experience the freedom found in an eternal relationship with Jesus? Make a point to pray for them this week and seek a time to visit with them about your Jesus.

In our pick verses today, James continues listing the ways in which we can draw closer to God. James states that we should experience a deep sense of grief and sorrow for the sins we have previously committed. Yes, we are completely and fully forgiven by God for our every sim\n, but that doesn’t change the fact that the consequences of our sins are not abolished when we are forgiven. Deep heartfelt sorrow is an important part of our transformation from a human-centric person to a kingdom-focused person. Secondly, James instructs us to humble ourselves before God by recognizing and accepting that our worth comes from God alone. To be spiritually humble involves fully leaning on God’s power, trusting in His guidance for our lives, and not going off on our own independent way. In spite of our human shortcomings, God desires to pour out on us His grace and give us worth and dignity. What a great God we serve.

Blessings
