5:17) Elijah was as human as we are, and yet when he prayed earnestly that no rain would fall, none fell for three and a half years!
18) Then, when he prayed again, the sky sent down rain and the earth began to yield its crops.

The Daily Walk Bible inspirational thought for today:
THE RECOGNITION OF SIN IS THE BEGINNING OF SALVATION; PUTTING SIN TO DEATH IS THE LIFE OF SANCTIFICATION.*

Wow it is Friday already! I hope your weekend plans are starting to come into focus and your calendar is filled with fun and exciting things. Our inspirational thought for today is actually two separate and powerful thoughts combined into one huge thought. The recognition that we are sinners and that we fall short of God’s standard is one of the most difficult awakenings we humans will face. In many cases we may even realize that we sin, but the bigger/harder step comes when we are ready to do something about it. This is the first step in our salvation journey. The second part of this thought takes us from acknowledgement to action, that of resisting the devil’s temptations to sin again. As we work on this aspect of our salvation journey, we move toward being more Christ like in our love, in our thoughts, and in our actions. If you have achieved the first part, don’t forget to work on the second part.

In our pick verses today, James gives us an Old Testament example of the power of prayer. Elijah was a person exactly like us, given the same resources from God that are available to us. Yet in his “fervent prayer” he was able to accomplish the will of God by stopping the rain for three and a half years, and then through fervent prayer he was able to start the rain again. The accomplishment of Elijah was possible because Elijah knew and responded to the will of God in his start and stop prayers. The power of our prayers will never be dependent upon how loud we pray, how long we pray, how eloquent we pray, or how often we pray. The power of prayer is grounded within our personal connection to God so that when we pray, we pray for God’s will to be done.

Blessings
