Wednesday – August 17th – 1 Peter 1:2     -----

2) God the Father knew you and chose you long ago, and his Spirit has made you holy. As a result, you have obeyed him and have been cleansed by the blood of Jesus Christ. May God give you more and more grace and peace.

The Daily Walk Bible inspirational thought for today:
PEOPLE’S CHARACTER AND THEIR GARDENS BOTH REFLECT THE AMOUNT OF WEEDING THAT WAS DONE DURING THE GROWING SEASON.*

Welcome to Wednesday!  Prayers that your week is off to a great start, and you are embracing all the opportunities for witness and service God sends your way. Speaking of opportunities from God, SunRise is putting together a mission trip back to Appalachia to assist in flood clean-up and repairs. Our hope is to be in one of the towns where the adult team went in June or the youth in July. We are scheduled for Monday October 24th – Saturday October 29th which includes our travel days. The cost is $400 per person plus traveling expenses. If you are interested or would like more information, please contact me at jdblue@sunrisefamily.org.

The pick verse for today concludes Peter’s opening remarks and introduction in this letter. In today’s verse Peter reminds his audience that they have been chosen by God to be part of this initial movement of Christianity across the Roman Empire. When we read this verse today it serves as a reminder that we have been chosen by God to be part of the movement of Christianity in our world today. Peter also reminds them that the three members of the Trinity are fully involved in creating all followers of Jesus. God the Father has chosen those who believe to be His own special possession. A word of interpretive caution for us Wesleyans, all things happen under the foreknowledge of God and not through the pre-determination of God. When we say “yes” to God’s grace we are cleansed by the blood of Jesus so that we can live in faithful obedience. The Holy Spirit confirms the reality of this choice by sanctifying our hearts to be more Christ-like. Holiness of heart and life is an important teaching throughout this letter. God’s grace is His love for us in and through Jesus. The peace that He brings includes the full blessings of our salvation.

Blessings
