Thursday – August 25th, 1 Peter 1:14 -----
14) So you must live as God’s obedient children. Don’t slip back into your old ways of living to satisfy your own desires. You didn’t know any better then.
The Daily Walk Bible inspirational thought for today:
IT’S WHEN WE RUB SHOULDERS WITH SOMEONE THAT WE DISCOVER WHAT THAT PERSON HAS UP HIS OR HER SLEEVE.*
Ciao Thursday! Our international greeting is one that is close to my family heritage – that should be a big hint and make it easy for you all. Today’s inspirational thought brings a smile to my face as it is another of those wise life sayings that we should have learned in our youth. However, if you are like me, you may have heard way back when, but putting it into practice usually came from the school of hard knocks. There have been times in my life where I needed to be more aware of who I surrounded myself with, should have paid more attention to actions and attributes than with the “fun” they generated. The warning of this thought is that when we allow someone into our circle we should listen and observe before we give them full access to our trust. The more we allow someone to be around us the more we might see their warts and then know them for who they really are on the inside. Just a thought for today.
In our pick verse today, Peter continues to remind us that we are to live into a holy life with Jesus as our model, teacher, and example. Peter’s first rule of moving toward holiness is to be as an obedient child in our relationship with the Lord. Our human nature coupled with the devil’s temptations can cause us to believe that we can set our own scale of obedience, yet both Peter and Paul in their writings instruct us to not conform to the ways of the world. Peter’s second rule in this verse is to resist the temptation to slip back into the habits we had before we experience the saving grace of God. If I can focus on these two rules today, I know I will be on my way to stepping into holy living.
Blessings
