Sunday – August 28th – 1 Peter 1:18-19 -----
18) For you know that God paid a ransom to save you from the empty life you inherited from your ancestors. And it was not paid with mere gold or silver, which lose their value.
19) It was the precious blood of Christ, the sinless, spotless Lamb of God.
The Daily Walk Bible inspirational thought for today:
A WELL-WORN PATH IS NOT NECESSARILY THE RIGHT ONE.*
Shalom Sunday to you on this day we gather to worship God. Our inspirational thought today accompanies our reading from the book of Daniel in the Daily Walk Bible. Very few places in all of scripture are there more examples of well-worn path options then in the first part of Daniel. My generation would have tagged it going along with the crowd. I can’t count the number of times I was given the option that “if everyone is jumping off a bridge would you jump as well”. To be a follower of Jesus requires us to avoid the wide and easy path to destruction and instead choose the narrow gate as our way of discipleship. Good to know we have lots of experienced folks who have gone before us to show us the right path to follow.
In our pick verses today, Peter shares the beautiful message of the grace of God that reaches out to us when we are lost and disconnected from our creator. We are redeemed from a life of aimlessly floundering in our sins. Jesus sets us free from a sinful life that has no purpose and ultimately leads to nothing good. The purchase of our freedom from sin exceeds the purchasing value of money which does not last past this earthly life. It is the precious blood of Jesus that is of far greater value than the things of this earth that we typically consider of highest value, like gold or silver. Jesus was the perfect sacrifice that was needed to remove our sin and grant us an invitation to eternal life in Heaven. Even with Jesus’ full and complete sacrifice on the cross – it remains our choice to accept His invitation.
